Demitasse Roasters introduced a home roasting kit and I was included in the first group. Thanks to Demitasse for providing the trial home roasting kit at no cost and including a bag of roasted coffee to go with the greens.
Here’s the home roasting kit; four 8oz bags of Burundi Kayanza green coffee, one bag of Burundi Kayanza roasted coffee, Intro sheet/Diedrich roasting profile, and two empty bags for roasted coffee.
Most people don’t think of Burundi and coffee in the same sentence; it’s a pretty small land locked country with coffee being the major cash crop for its people. Burundi coffee is an excellent representation of Africa’s offerings.
Who is this kit for? Home roasters with any type of gear can try to calibrate their process/profile using the roasted coffee for comparison. It would probably be best to roast 8oz batches or three 302g charges. Huky500, Behmor, Hottop, Gene Café, Popper, BM/HG, and SC/TO; no problem.
Another piece to the kit is how the home roasters communicate with each other and Demitasse. Home Barista has a Roast and Learn, but lacks a single source of pro-roasted samples. Home Barista would be the logical place unless Demitasse hosts a forum for the kit.
Let’s hope Demitasse can get the home roasting kit out for a reasonable price.
